An idea currently being explored by government could mean them introducing a sepererate planning class for new build properties to be rented out, this would be the beginning of a possible made shift in the UK housing market.

The idea has come about after research by Grainger, the country's largest listed residential landlord looked into the public opinion on homeownership vs renting. Cheif executive of Grainger Andrew Cunningham says build to rent will be the next big thing.

67% of people questioned by Grainger believe long term renting will become a lot more common in this country as it is through out Europe, and 54% think that there will be more people renting than own ther home in 15 years time.Grainger predicts that the age of the first time buy will have also increased to the 40's which would in turn put increased pressure on the private rented sector.
